Campaign Title

Ashton Consulting

Ashton was founded in 2000 by John Sunley the current CEO and is an independent agency based in Japan. Winning and retaining high quality PR work in Japan demands persistence and the ability to adapt PR solutions to Japan’s distinct cultural and business environment. With extensive knowledge and experience of the communications landscape in Japan, Ashton rapidly expanded its client list, sales, and profits in 2013 by guiding and advising large international foreign firms operating in Japan in their PR and communications strategies, while also helping Japanese companies to grow and protect their reputation with key global audiences.
In 2013, Ashton’s sales grew by 42 per cent and profits grew by 85 per cent. This growth was driven by an expanding range of work from existing clients and some very significant client wins. Ashton was also chosen as PR agency in Japan for several of the largest M&A transactions in Japan and in the Mergermarket M&A 2013 communications ranking was the clear No. 1 among Japan-based agencies.
Ashton retained all of its clients in 2013, many of which are10-year partnerships. It provided innovative services to exceed client expectation. For example, Ashton launched an innovative twitter campaign in Japan for Tourism New Zealand to celebrate the film release The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, using a giant ‘one ring’, a replica of the movie prop. The photo twitter campaign of the ring’s journey round film locations in New Zealand and the subsequent competition resulted in over 2 million impressions on social media prior to the ring’s arrival in Japan, and Twitter impressions reached 3.3 million by the end of the competition period. The client’s Japanese twitter account achieved a net gain of approximately 530 followers.
