Australian CFD provider FP Markets’ reputation was being tarnished by inaccurate media coverage as the corporate regulator scrutinised the practices of its larger overseas competitors. The solution was to engage directly with the regulator and government ministers, and to restore balance to media coverage through a concerted awareness and education campaign. The campaign targeted influential financial journalists at major business publications to generate a large number of high-profile ‘breaking news’ articles. The enactment of new CFD industry regulations are on hold pending further review. Following the campaign, two of FP Markets’ largest and most vocal competitors left the six-member ‘Australian CFD Forum’.
