Hill+Knowlton Strategies Japan

In 2015, Hill+Knowlton Strategies implemented a transformation strategy dedicated to rebuilding its Japan operations. To achieve this, H+K Japan made the strategic commitment to approach the business differently, to boldly diversify from our traditional “bread and butter PR” offering, and to invest in talents with skill sets outside the standard pedigree which we believed would lift us back to the top ranks of the industry. Our strategic objective was to elevate our business offering across different services in distinctly unique ways relevant to Japan’s recovering economic climate. This would involve diversification into areas including integrated marketing and sports activation, whilst retaining a laser sector focus on technology and travel + tourism where we have historically played and won. The Japan operation grew revenue by 36 per cent over the past 12 months, and reversed an eight-year unprofitable run. The Japan office is not only the fastest growing H+K office in Asia Pacific but also one of the fastest-growing offices for the agency network globally.
